Children's OFficial souvenir artwork contest


A huge congratulations goes out to Miss Katie Girolami, winner of the 2010 Children's Official Souvenir Artwork Contest.  Katie is a 4th grader at Cape Fear Academy.  Katie's artwork was chosen from among 250 entries by children all over Wilmington and extending to the Raleigh area.  The artwork was chosen by two professional artists and experienced judges and the NC Azalea Festival Board of Directors.  Katie's artwork will be featured on a variety of 2010 Festival Souvenirs. As the winner, Katie will ride in the 2010 Festival Parade with a Celebrity Guest, attend the 2010 Governor's Press Conference in Raleigh where she will present the Governor with some of the souvenirs showcasing her artwork, two tickets to the Circus, a gift basket of souvenirs, and a $50.00 Gift Card from Learning Express.  She also will be featured in the March issue of Wilmington Parent Magazine.

The Children's Official Souvenir Artwork Contest is a way to further involve the children of our area in the North Carolina Azalea Festival.  The contest was for all area children in grades K-5.  We wanted to know: What does the NC Azalea Festival mean to you?  Children could choose from a multitude of events: Concerts, Garden Tours, Home Tours, Circus, Parade, Street Fair, Horse Show, Coin Show, Children's Tea, Princess Pageant, Fireworks, the Queen...anything that makes the Festival special to them.  Deadline was October 16, 2009.  The second place winner's artwork will be featured on the Street Fair's Program Cover and will also receive two tickets to the Circus.
