Azalea 5K/10K/Fun Walk
8:00 a.m.The Azalea Festival 5K/10K & 1 mile-Fun Walk is an annual event hosted by the Cape Fear Volunteer Center.
All proceeds from this event benefit the Cape Fear Volunteer Center Big Buddy Program. Big Buddy is a one-on-one mentoring program that matches “at-risk” youth ages 6-16 in New Hanover County and Brunswick County with positive adult role models. Youth are identified as “at-risk” due to the following circumstances: involvement with the juvenile justice system, excessive in-school and/or out-of-school suspensions, poor academic performance, and lack of positive role models. The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is a 501c3 and works to recruit and train volunteers, match volunteers with youth, offer support and guidance through case management, and provide monthly group activities.
The 2013 Azalea 5K/10K/Fun Walk will be held Saturday, April 6th at 8:00am in Mayfaire Towncenter at the Try Sports Field. The race starts at 8:00am, with day-of registration from 6:30-7:30am. The entry fee is $30 beforehand and $35 on race day. Youth participants under 10 are free to promote a healthy lifestyle.
